Rewind
is available to all players at all times. It should generally only be used to immediately correct a mistake after submitting your move.
Replay
does not alter the game state in any way. You can view all the moves made from the start of the game, stepping through move by move, and viewing the game state exactly as it was at that time. Once you exit replay mode, the game will return to the same state as when you entered replay mode.
There is an option to play the game with hidden money.
With this option selected, you will not be able to view a replay mid-game, and the history will obscure the earnings of other players.
Gameplay by Phase
New Era: Cards will automatically be discarded if there is no valid territory to place a city. They will also be discarded if there are no more size 1 cities available (very rare). You can check the history if you are unsure why you turn was skipped.
Turn order: Remeber - you only get 1 chance to bid.
Mergers: In order to propose a merger, you require a high enough merger tech, a free slot (or to own one of the merging companies), and enough money to start the bidding. If you cannot propose any mergers your turn will be skipped - you can check in the history for the reason. During your turn to propose a merger, you can click on ANY slot to see why it is not available to merge; either before or after you have selected the first slot. When placing any bid, you can select the amount you want to bid right now, plus a maximum bid, along with whether or not to pass when your maximum bid has been exceeded. If you have placed a maximum bid, you will automatically bid in the smallest increment possible, up to your maximum bid. Your maximum bid must of course be at least 2 increments higher than your immediate bid - otherwise there is no chance of you ever bidding that amount.
Acquisitions: Click on a company deed on the map to acquire that company.
R & D: You may either click on the highlighted “R&D” area of the main map, or use the dropdown selector to choose your research.
Operations: You may select a slot to operate either by using the Player Table, or by clicking on a production marker / ship on the map. When operating a land company, remember you MUST ship the maximum possible goods. If you get into a situation where you can no longer ship the maximum possible goods, you will need to restart your turn and ship differently.
For example, if you have shipping chain 1 that can deliver to cities A and B, and shipping chain 2 that can only deliver to city B, then the most shipments can be done by using chain 1 for city A and chain 2 for city B, for a total of 2 deliveries. However, if you use chain 1 to deliver to city B, then you will be unable to ship any more goods. Thus because the maximum possible deliveries is 2, you will need to restart your turn.
You can always Auto-Ship, which will provide you the cheapest possible way to ship the maximum possible number of goods.
You can click the "Show Shipping" button to show a flashing route path that the deliveries will take.
Note: You can recalculate the auto-shipping options, as sometimes there are multiple cheapest options; for example, if you could use 1 opponent's ship to ship to city A or city B, then both routes would have the same cost. Similarly, using 1 of your own ships to ship to city A has the same cost as using 4 of your ships to ship to city B. Sometimes you may wish ship the most possible goods, but not at the lowest cost; perhaps to grow a particular city. You can always achieve this by shipping the goods manually.
If you only have un-operated shipping companies that cannot expand, your turn will be skipped and one of those companies will be operated at random.
City Growth: If multiple cities are able to grow, and there are not enough city markers to grow all of them, then the first player in turn order will be asked to choose which cities should upgrade.
